Pigeon control

Pigeon control in Southampton and Hampshire

Pigeons roosting on ledges, in roof steel and under solar panels. We proof the building, clear the fouling and move the roost on, humanely and without poison.

Feral pigeons roost on ledges, roof steel and under solar panels, and breed in any month. Their droppings foul walkways, vehicles and stock. We survey the building, proof the roosting spots with spikes or netting, clear the fouling, and use hawk deterrence where it fits. The first step is a free site visit.

What we do

  1. Step 1

    Survey

We find where the pigeons roost and nest, roughly how many there are, and where droppings are building up.

  2. Step 2

    Plan and price

You get a written plan and price covering proofing, any clean-up, and whether hawk patrols would help.

  3. Step 3

    Treatment or installation

We clear nests and fouling where the law allows, fit spikes, netting or panel mesh, and fly a hawk where it suits.

  4. Step 4

    Check

We return to check the pigeons have not found a new ledge and the proofing is holding.

  5. Step 5

    Prevention

We advise on feeding, waste and gaps so the roost does not rebuild, and price any further ledges.

Law and safety

Done properly, within the law

Feral pigeons are wild birds, so they, their nests and eggs are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. Proofing and deterrence need no licence as long as active nests are not disturbed. Some control, such as removing nests for public health and safety reasons, is allowed under a Natural England general licence where its conditions are met. We work licensed where the law requires it. Read bird control and the law.

Questions

Questions people ask

How do I stop pigeons nesting under my solar panels?

Fit mesh around the edge of the panels so pigeons cannot get underneath. We clear any old nests and droppings first, where the law allows, then fit mesh that clips to the panels without drilling into them. We price it after a free site visit.

Will a hawk get rid of pigeons for good?

A hawk is one tool, not the whole answer. Regular flights make a site feel unsafe, so a roost tends to break up. Pigeons come back if ledges stay open and food is nearby, so we pair hawk work with proofing and advice on what draws them in.

Are pigeon droppings a health risk?

Pigeon droppings can carry bacteria and fungi linked to illness, and dry droppings make dust when disturbed. They also make walkways slippery and damage stone and roofing. Large build-ups should be cleared with protective kit and disposed of properly, which we do as a registered waste carrier.
